March is my least favourite month of the year. It’s a month that pretends a lot. It pretends to bring spring, it pretends to be warm, and at the end it brings the time change. It’s all a bit disappointing, isn’t it? The time change is no fun at all. It’s hard on people and the wild life. I’ve just read that there are more wild animals dying on the road in the weekend when we move the clocks. As the time shifts an hour forward it brings more traffic at the moment they’re crossing the roads. Can someone finally be brave enough to stop this daylight saving time nonsense?
This March was not all disappointing, though. For me it was a month of discoveries and reconnecting with my truths and values. It waas a month when I understood some important things about myself, like that not everything I’m good at is good for me. Knowing this I can make some changes now(ish) and make better decisions in the future. It’s not going to be easy and I may need to change more things that I would like to right now, but for the first time in my life, I’m ready to put my well-being before anything else.
Sipping: a delicious Darjeeling leaf tea
Reading: Write It All Down by Cathy Rentzenbrink (again), Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, and a couple of books in Polish
Getting: fitter, I seriously can feel the effects or regular exercise
Cooking: simple meals and generally letting A. cook
Thinking: about the book I want to write
Remembering: what’s important to me
Looking: forward to proper spring
Wishing: that more people realise that our world is in trouble and acted on it
Enjoying: the rare sunshine
Appreciating: every comment on here, my blog and Instagram. It’s lovely when people react to what you have to say
Wanting: to buy and e-bike and use the car less often
Finishing: a notebook, very satisfying to see it full to the last page
Liking: the small moments when I feel when I’m going in the right direction
Loving: new plants at home
Buying: books, all the Frieda Klein series (second-hand), A Swim in a Pond in the Rain by George Saunders, and two books on writing memoir.
Watching: Rizzoli & Isles, I’m on the last available season and I will miss these ladies
Hoping: for some changes at work, I need to be patient though as it may take a while
Wearing: still a lot of warm clothes and jackets and scraves
Walking: Yes! I’m building up my walking routine again
Following: Katie Anderson-Morrison’s progress on her second novel (from a distance this time)
Noticing: all the small signs of nature waking up
Saving: for the e-bike still, it’s slow going
Waiting: for all the Frieda Klein books to arrive as I want to do a binge reread
Feeling: lighter on my feet, but not yet completely stable mentally
How was your March?
Lovely reflections, Anna. You are so right about the ‘pretending’ of March, that resonated a lot! Definitely a stretchy transition where there’s pressure and impetus to speed up, but our bodies and brains are not quite running at the corresponding pace fresh out of the gates of winter hibernation.
I’m glad to hear that March has been a bit kinder to you this year (and, perhaps, that you have been a bit kinder to March?!) And thank you for the mention, I’m excited about watching your progress, too! 💙
